Taking the First Step

“Every change starts in a small step.  Let’s make that small step together.”                                                                                    Ron Stolero
Week #2

I have made up my mind to begin focusing on taking small steps in my life to see if that will result in big changes and I hope you will  join me so we can take the steps together. I decided it will be easier if I begin the journey by considering all of  the areas of my life that are important to me.

I began with a good brainstorming session that lasted a few days. (Brainstorming rules: #1. no ideas are too silly #2. quantity is better than quality at this point #3. Don't think in depth, just get it down on paper as fast as we can).  I suggest you do the same thing. Since each of us has different lives, different interests, different focuses it’s important for you to think through this on our own.  Here is an example of some of the things on my list.

husband
kids
My family
My husband’s family
friends
finances
Exercise
Eating
Learning
Creative activities
House
Entertainment
Vacations
Spirituality
My stuff
Career
Bad habits
general health
my home
etc

Like I said, I thought about these for a few days before I had finished my list…I may add more areas later on.

Once I felt my list was pretty well complete, I quickly realized that there were too many areas to work with, so I decided I would combine those that are similar or have a common theme and put them into general categories.  I want to keep it to less than 10 general areas so they will be easier to remember throughout my journey.

Here’s an example: I took areas like husband, kids, friends, family  and combined them together and called them Relationships. This should help me get better organized for when I am ready to select the small steps that I want to focus on.

So that's it for this week; thinking, and writing down the areas in our lives that are important to us and combining them into general categories.

Since this blog is not to be only a one-sided communication effort, and research tells us that we learn more if we talk about what we’re learning, please join in on the discussion and let us know how you’re doing along the way.  I hope to see you next week as we look at the 'categories in our lives'.

Homework:
#1. Brainstorm different areas in your life that you are important to you.
#2. Put them in writing
#3. After you’ve written them all down, organize them into categories
