Word Search

Week 30
A few weeks ago I wrote about an article by Debbie Macomber, titled ‘My Spiritual Vocabulary’. She shared how, as part of her spiritual journey, she selected a word each year to focus on and she gave examples of some of those words. I loved her idea and by the time I finished reading the article, I had decided that I wanted to do that as well. I mentioned to you that I was going to take some time to think about the word I would like to choose. I also suggested that you come up with your own word as well.
I heard from several of you, as you explained the words you selected to focus on this year for your spiritual journey. You picked terms such as ‘blessings’, ‘help/helper’, and ‘presence’. These are all great conversation starters, journal themes, research topics, as well as food for thought, prayer, and meditation.
In her search for a word each year, Ms Macomber also shared that she sometimes doesn’t find the word, but the word finds her. I feel like that is what has caused me to choose the word I want to focus on this year; my word is ‘peace’.
For Christmas this year my Bible study friends and I exchanged gifts. One of my friends gave me a daily devotional, the book’s theme for the year is ‘The things that make for Peace’. The devotions are written by over 50 authors, who in the back of the book talk about what ‘peace’ means to them. So each day as I read one of the devotionals, I am reminded of the word ’Peace’ along with an anecdote about it. Another gift I received at our exchange was an ornate, silver painted, decorative sign that can be hung on the wall or from a Christmas tree. Can you guess what word is spelled out on the tin decoration? Yes, you're right it's ‘Peace’. Instead of packing it away with the other Christmas decorations, I hung it up on the wall of my study.
After just briefly perusing my Bible’s Concordance, there looks to be over 100 verses that are listed under the word “peace”. That will certainly get me started on my research and study of this fascinating word.
I’m really looking forward to hearing from more of you about the word you are choosing for the year, and your experiences and reflections about it.

Small step: Select the word ‘peace’ to research and reflect on as part of my spiritual journey this year.
