Brain Clutter Overload
"Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day
listening to the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across the sky,
is hardly a waste of time. "

It's finals week at school. I have papers stacked high, exams have to be given, grades have to be finished and students are emailing me, desperate to figure out how they can improve their grades. I am so crazy with reading papers, observations and summaries....my mind is racing, I can't concentrate and I feel that my brain is going to explode...ahhhh! Is this a break down, or is it just brain clutter?
Last week I talked about having a garage sale with the overflow of useless and worthless stuff I have crowding in the recesses of my brain. It's a reminder to all of us that we don't just need to clean out our closets, get rid of the crap stuffed in our drawers and either repair or toss those small appliances sitting out in the garage, but we also need to declutter the outdated, unimportant and unhealthy thoughts that are growing like weeds inside our head. We should have a beautiful garden growing up there, not a junkyard!
Of course once we get rid of the old to make room for the new, just like our physical space, then we have the challenge of learning not to amass more useless, unhealthy stuff. So I feel that, before I move on from this topic of decluttering ones brain, I need to think about what I'm going to do to make sure I don't continue to collect negative, harmful, fearful thoughts that stand between me and finding my passion.
By the way, have you ever given much thought (if there's still room in your brain) to where we get this barrage of debris that gets sucked into our brain? Are we just innocent, unsuspecting bystanders, and these negative thoughts are forced inside our heads by the enemy?
I believe a big culprit of my clutter in today's world is technology....Next time you sit down and soak in the information you're being served on that ever larger, louder, more impressive tube.... just think about how much of it you'll store up there in your already overcrowded, unorganized brain cavity, leaving less space for the 'good for you' stuff to flourish.
No doubt the information we let in is similar to the food we eat. If what we mostly take in is junk food, lots of carbs, and too much sugar...it will impact how we look, how tired we feel, what kind of thoughts we have. The same is true with the information we take in. If we continue to feed on things like reality TV, soap operas, depressing news programs, movies that portray mankind at their worst, or the Kardashians at their best?....under the name of 'getting away from it all', can't you see how like junk food, the junk media will cause us to feel out of sorts, as well. Remember Mom's old saying: "Garbage in, Garbage out."? But wait... we can't give up the junk all together, can we? I suspect it's like everything else in life, it's all about balance.
Let's once again listen to Dr. Friedmann Schaub tell us about what we can do to not only declog our brain, but find a balance in our lives to keep the clutter from taking over and doing its damage.

Getting back to my present challenge of my fried brain during finals week...I'm determined to take a brain vacation after the week is over...I'm off to go play with my grandchildren, maybe find some freshly fallen snow to lay in, watch the clouds go by, and spread our arms like wings and make angels!
