Continuing the Journey

"With each step you take, you will grow stronger and stronger, more and more skilled, more and more self-confident and more and more successful."  Mark Victor Hansen.

Week 45

I mentioned last week that I had begun reading a non-fiction book about the mind and the brain and the research that pointed to the fact that we can change the physical make up of our brains by taking charge of our thoughts.  It was so interesting that I found myself checking out yet another book having to do with similar ideas. This one was called, Who Switched off my Brain by Dr. Caroline Leaf.

This author discusses the research that has been done to support the idea that “toxic thoughts produce toxic emotions, which produce toxic attitudes, resulting in toxic behavior”.  Dr. Leaf refers to her book as a ‘detox manual’ and in the closing chapters she lays out 13 detox steps to help you to begin to control your thought life and consequently your emotions, attitude and behavior, ultimately leading to feeling and living better.  Does that not sound like something that would interest me for my year-long ‘small steps’ experiment????

When I read about the steps she included, I thought this would be a grand way to finish my year out. As you know, I’ve invited you a number of times to join me in my journey, but I’d like to extend the invitation again; this time for a 'summer seminar'.  Before you say  ‘no’ too quickly, I want you to ask yourself these questions?  "What’s the worst thing that could happen if I agree to do this?  Would I be worse off than I am now?   What have I got to lose?"  Like our quote says, ‘don’t wait until everything is just right.  It will never be perfect’. Please join in as we work together in detoxing our thoughts, our attitudes and our behavior.

I’m going to tweak a few of Dr. Leaf’s steps to better suit my own needs, and hopefully yours as well. So, based on the book, Who Switched off My Brain, I am going to continue on my journey to discover healthier and happier living.

I’d like you to think it over this week, pray about it, and decide if you’re willing to make the commitment and join in. Next week our focus will be on taking responsibility and taking control.
