Time To Take Action
"The chief condition on which, life, health and vigor depend on, is action. It is by action that an organism develops its faculties, increases its energy, and attains the fulfillment of its destiny." Colin Powell
Do you suffer from a lack of motivation, energy, inattention, minor aches and pains?
Sounds like the beginning of a drug advertisement, doesn't it? Do you know where those symptoms would put you on the Wellness Continuum?
As I worked on my list of how I can take more responsibility for my level of wellness, it caused me to think more about the whole 'health thing'. I thought it was worth our while to spend more time on the wellness model that we looked at last week
Have you determined where you fall on the continuum? And have you decided you'd like to move to the right? If you caught any of the interviews with this year's Summer Olympic athletes, you no doubt heard them telling the interviewer that they are determined to continue working on being better (healthier, faster, fitter, stronger). Even the fittest want to be fitter.
But perhaps you're one of those folks, who although you would of course like to be in better shape, feel energized, rested, refreshed, and rid of the aches and pain, you just can't seem to find the motivation to begin it. And so, very little forward motion or action is happening in your life when it comes to being healthier.
Might I suggest that you begin, much the same way as we've been talking about all year...with small steps. Our goal doesn't have to be to compete in the 2016 Olympics.
On the right side of the health continuum there are three principles guiding us to a higher level of wellness: Awareness, Education and Growth.
Education: The Internet provides such a plethora of information. Health and fitness books are ubiquitous on the shelves of our libraries and bookstores. By the way, we all know we should stay away from those latest best sellers that convince us we can lose 50 pounds in 50 days by eating all the bacon, eggs, and cheese we want..??? I don't think so.
Growth/Action: Don't wait until the beginning of January, the first of the month, or even Monday.... 'Just do it'. Begin it today... that's how we grow isn't it? Once we learn about the vitamins that are most crucial to our well being...we need to take them. Once we research about the healthiest foods, we need to eat them. Once we're convinced about the cruicial role exercise plays, we need to do it.
Let's pay heed to Mr. Powell's wise words.'The chief condition on which, life, health and vigor depend on, is action'.... How about all of us taking one small action step this week to become healthier.
