The Year's end

“Year’s end is neither an end nor a beginning, but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us.” Hal Borland
I think most of us find this time of year as a time of reflection.  We go between turning our heads backward, and looking forward.  Even if you’re not normally an ‘intentional liver’ one still pauses to realize that this time of year holds a special significance in the passing of time, and has a direct relationship to the passing of our lives.

So, it’s time for reflections, time to think about the year gone by, the challenges overcome, and the lessons learned.  Last year, using my journal,  I first made a list of the memorable events and blessings from the year. (I set a goal of listing a minimum of 50 things and that caused me to think deeply and detailed). I also had a page that I called ‘finished projects’ where I wrote about goals I reached, and projects completed, and I also listed unfinished projects as well.  I also designated a page for the challenges that I, or a loved one, faced over the year. And finally, as a capstone of this exercise of reflection, I wrote about the lessons I learned (or relearned) as a result of my experiences for the year..

Although I realize not all of you enjoy the therapeutic experience of writing as much as I do, none-the-less it’s an excellent way to look back on the journey and reflect on the year. So, I am going to do it again this year.  I’d like you to join me in 'taking stock' of 2012, as you make your own list of blessings and memorable events.  Write about the projects you finished, the challenges you took on, and the lessons you learned.

And I know, we would all love to learn about the wisdom you gained as a result of your 2012 experiences.  So, please post your comments on the blog or email me at: smallsteps4bigresults@yahoo.com
