Taking Stock of 2013

"Americans Hopeful for Better in 2014"...so began a news article I read last week which began with findings from a new AP Times Square Poll: "Large number of Americans see 2013 as anything but a banner year and aren't reluctant to wave goodbye on New Year's Eve."

How about you? Are you ready to say goodbye and good riddance to 2013?
The media have already begun launching their stories of the best of and the worst of 2013, the top 100 songs, 100 news stories, 100 most influential people, 100 most unforgettable events...etc. Have you got your own personal list? I'm working on mine.
Each year I try and do a past, present and future update to get ready for the new year. I begin my summary of the past year with a overview of what it was like, at least from my point of view. I begin with the blessings; big and small, including exciting and happy events. I also list my achievements, which are usually a result of blessings. I also include a column of sad or troubling events, and one of unfinished projects or uncompleted goals.
Once I feel like I've done a good job of reviewing 2013, then I go back and star the things that most stand out for me. I try and take my time pondering the old. What did I learn from 2013?
That usually brings me to the present and how I'm feeling about things these days. I drag out my goals from the beginning of the year and consider where I'm currently at. What am I doing that's working? What is not working? What am I enjoying most in my life right now? These questions get me ready for my next step; which I'll talk about more next week.
I hope you'll join me and take stock of your 2013 year.
Have a safe and Happy New Year!
